On September 28, 2024, the Toronto Women’s Association of Toronto hosted a memorable Mid-Autumn Festival at the Christian Center Church, 4545 Jane St, North York, celebrating the richness of Vietnamese culture and fostering understanding among diverse communities.

The opening ceremonies began with heartfelt greetings from Ms. Tram Nguyen, head of the organizing committee. She expressed the mission of the Toronto Women’s Association: “Every year, we come together to preserve our cultural heritage and create a joyful space filled with the magic of the Mid-Autumn Festival, especially for our children.”

The festival featured inspiring speeches from notable figures, including Ms. Hoang Binh Minh, president of the Women’s Association, and local politicians like MP Judy Sgro, MPP Sheref Sabawy, MPP Tom Rakocevic, City Councilor Anthony Perruzza, School Trustee Matias de Dovitiis and Father Giuse Nguyen Cao Phong, Administrator of the Our Lady of Lavang Community in Peel. With over 700 parents and children in attendance, the atmosphere was electric!

The festivities kicked off with an exhilarating lion dance, symbolizing good luck and joy, setting the tone for the vibrant celebrations to come. The cultural program showcased a vibrant array of performances from Vietnamese children, as well as talented groups from Korean, Chinese, African, Tamil, and the Jane and Finch communities. The lively acts created a colorful, multicultural celebration that delighted all who attended!

Children enjoyed a variety of engaging activities, from drawing and building with Legos to Bingo games that introduced them to Vietnamese language and culture. They also crafted lanterns, played with Play-Doh, participated in cotton ball breaking, and got their faces painted. A sweet highlight was the cotton candy that brought smiles all around!

The traditional áo dài contest was a standout feature, with many adorable young contestants, the youngest being just one and a half years old. Every participant received a special gift from the Women’s Association to inspire a love for the beautiful Vietnamese áo dài.

The festival wrapped up with a joyful lantern procession led by the children, illuminating the spirit of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this celebration! We look forward to creating more joyful memories next year!

The Board of Directors of the Vietnamese Women’s Association of Toronto extended heartfelt thanks to all the staff and volunteers who contributed significantly to the success of the 2024 Mid-Autumn Children’s Festival.
