On March 26th, 2023 The Vietnamese Women’s Association of Toronto co-organized
this year’s Trưng Sisters Commemoration event with the Vietnamese Cultural
Society at Oakdale Community Centre.

The event commemorated the life of the two sisters, Trưng Trắc and Trưng Nhị, our heroines who led the Vietnamese people against the foreign denomination in the early part of the first century (40CE-43CE). The occasion included Ceremonial Reflections and Tributes to our Heroic Sisters, Guests’ Speeches, and Musical Performances.

The event was attended by the Honourable Judy A. Sgro MP for Humber River-Black Creek, Tom Rakocevic MPP for Humber River-Black Creek, and Anthony Perruzza City Councillor for the Humber River–Black Creek electoral district, and the representatives from Community Members.

Hon. Judy A. Sgro presented a Certificate of Recognition to VWAT with great appreciation for our outstanding community service contributions.

This was the first time we hosted our Trung Sisters Commemoration event again after a few years of postponement due to pandemic restrictions.

A big thank you to all of our volunteers, especially the Youth volunteers who did a great job re-enacting the procession of the Trung Sisters and their commanders and army.
