Vinh Truong

Executive Director

Vinh Truong was born in Vietnam and had a life-changing experience when he came to Canada as a “boat-people” refugee at the age of 18, fleeing his war-ravaged home country.

Humble beginnings oftentimes required great efforts and even tremendous courage. Despite facing a myriad of resettlement challenges, Vinh’s perseverance and thirst for knowledge drove him to pursue a Bachelor of Engineering degree, which laid the foundation for his successful career in the telecommunication industry. Over the course of 25 years, Vinh worked in various roles, including many years as a well-respected Senior Manager for a leading Canadian telecommunication company.

Driven by a desire to make positive impacts beyond the corporate world, Vinh transitioned to the non-profit sector in 2016 and assumed the role of Executive Director for VWAT, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting newcomers to Canada, as well as providing essential youth and seniors programs. Under his guidance, the agency experienced significant growth and success, achieving many key milestones, and greater solidifying its position in the social services sector. Vinh’s empathetic leadership and selfless devotion has earned him admiration and respect.

In his spare time, Vinh enjoys exploring the outdoors, hiking, biking, and teaching free yoga classes for seniors.

The motto Vinh set for VWAT: “Small Enough to Care; Large Enough to Deliver” reflects his lifelong commitment to making meaningful impacts on individuals and communities alike.
