We are happy to report we met our goals for our Fresh Food Distribution Program, which ended in June.

Our program delivered packages of fresh produce, milk, yogurt, meat, etc. to the doorstep of vulnerable seniors most at risk of financial, mental, and physical health challenges.

Many of our seniors suffer from chronic disease, and with increasing fears of the pandemic and getting sick, they avoided traveling outside their homes. In addition, with rising costs, many of our seniors were struggling to make ends meet, and so not having to worry about food alleviated stress during a period that was already extremely stressful. We were also able to make personalized accommodations, for instance, certain seniors were lactose-intolerant and so requested lactose-free food. When registering, we wrote down requests from each participant.

One of the recipients of our food distribution program, Mr. Hung Nguyen, is a Vietnamese senior in his late seventies who is bedridden due to chronic illness. During the pandemic, many of the Vietnamese associations were closed. Therefore, he felt extremely grateful that our organization made weekly deliveries to his home, and he especially enjoyed the cans of condensed milk that we delivered as per his request. As he shared, in the evenings, when he would get hungry, he would mix the condensed milk with hot water and drink it to stave off the hunger as he was limited in terms of what food he could prepare for himself.

We want to thank our dedicated volunteers who help not only by bringing nutritious and culturally relevant food hampers to our seniors, but also for providing much needed emotional support.

Altogether, we served 429 seniors.

Funded by United Way and Second Harvest.
