Vietnamese Lunar New Year Celebration – Hội Chợ Tết
Vietnamese Lunar New Year Celebration - Hội Chợ Tết
Tết or Vietnamese Lunar New Year is one of the most important celebrations in Vietnamese culture. “Tết” is a shortened form of Tết Nguyên Đán, with Old Vietnamese origins meaning “Festival of the First Morning of the First Day”. Tết celebrates the arrival of spring based on the Vietnamese calendar. Many customs and traditions are practiced during Tết, such as visiting a person’s house on the first day of the new year (xông nhà), ancestor worship, exchanging New Year’s greetings, giving lucky money to children and elderly people, and visiting relatives, friends and neighbors.
Every year, VWAT Family Services Board members, staff and senior members come together to celebrate the Lunar New Year with a potluck party. We also take this opportunity to recognise the commitment and dedication of our Senior Volunteers in our community. This event brings together our senior community members to share in joy and laughter as well as to nourish wonderful friendships, with many of our seniors becoming long-term friends and companions.
